ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30) and Michael Morgan on July 2, 1989. They raised her and her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was multisport in her youth, but she first discovered soccer at 14. After graduating from high school, Morgan was a part of Cypress Elite's club team. They won the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and came in third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to train at Diamond Bar High School, where she worked on her soccer skills. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), selected her as an All-American Athlete. Additionally, she was a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan completed her soccer journey at UC Berkeley, where she led the California Golden Bears team in scoring right from the start of their first season. The team was able to reach the NCAA Tournament in four years, and two times to the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. This made her the first Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed in the top spot on the list. Morgan completed her studies at Berkeley in the first semester of 2010, and was ranked third among the top scorers of all time in goals, points and assists. Morgan was able manage soccer careers at both the college and national levels during her studies. When she first joined the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that kept her from participating in the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April 2008. She scored her first international goal in Mexico during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The team was awarded gold and she scored her first international goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Tournament in Mexico. One of these goals was a win over Italy which secured the U.S. team the final place at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team and was instrumental in helping it win against France. While the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first ever player to record both a goal and an assist in a final World Cup game.
