Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 24th, 1994) is an ex-retired American artistic gymnast and two-time Olympian. She was the captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams. Both have won individual teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London, she won gold medals in floor and team competitions along with the bronze medal for the balance beam, which made her the most well-known American gymnast to compete at the Games. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she received a gold medal at the team competition as well as teammate Gabby Douglas the only Americans to have back-toback team gold medals. Raisman also won silver medals in the individual all-around and floor exercises. Raisman has silver medals from the individual all-around as well as for the floor exercise. She is also a two-time national champion on floor exercise (2012, 2015) and the 2012 champion of the national team on the balance beam, as well as five times medalist in the all-around competition at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2011, 2012, and in 2015, bronze in 2010, 2011, and). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), a former high school gymnast, and Rick Raisman. She is the mother of three siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and claims that "I enjoy being able to not just represent the U.S.A but as well the Jewish community everywhere." "Raisman began gymnastics when was 18 months old. She attributes her love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's group that won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8 before she transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was directed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online and was working towards the Olympics.
