Katey Sagal
A highly talented multifaceted performer
who excels in both drama and comedy, actress/singer Katey Sagal became a
household name in the 1980s when she played the stunningly bold unassuming Peg
Bundy in the long-running Fox series Married... with Children (1987). During
its lengthy run she was awarded three Golden Globe and two American Comedy
Award nominations. Peg Bundy may have been recognizable, but Katey was
determined to continue her acting career even after the show's end. Katey
starred in other sitcoms as well as TV movies. In 2008, she portrayed the role
of Gemma Teller Morrow on Sons of Anarchy (2008). This role was the matriarch
of a Hell's Angels-esque California biker group. In 2011, her performance in
the character earned her a Golden Globe Award as Best Performance by an actor
in a TV Series-Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal is the daughter of Sara Zwilling
(director and singer) and Boris Sagal (film and television director). Sagal, a
Los Angeles native began performing at the age of 5 and then studied voice and
acting at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. As
waitress, she started performing with "The Group Without a Name" and
later was able to break into Gene Simmons' 1970s rock band KISS. She also
performed as a backup singer for recordings for Simmons as well as other
celebrities, including Bob Dylan (Olivia Newton-John), Etta James, and Tanya
Tucker. She also performed with a lot of energy when she performed live with
Bette Midler during the wild stage show of Bette Midler of the late 1970s/early
1980s.
